چکیده

Color images acquired through single chip digital cameras using a color filter array (CFA) contain a mixture of luminance and opponent chromatic information that share their representation in the spatial Fourier spectrum. This mixture could result in aliasing if the bandwidths of these signals are too wide and their spectra overlap. In such a case, reconstructing three-color per pixel images without error is impossible. One way to improve the reconstruction is to have sensitivity functions that are highly correlated, reducing the bandwidth of the opponent chromatic components. However, this diminishes the ability to reproduce colors accurately as noise is amplified when converting an image to the final color encoding. In this paper, we are looking for an optimum between accurate image reconstruction through demosaicing and accurate color rendering. We design a camera simulation, first using a hyperspectral model of random color images and a demosaicing algorithm based on frequency selection. We find that there is an optimum and confirm our results using a natural hyperspectral image.

Optimum spectral sensitivity functions for single sensor color imaging

A cost-effective and convenient approach for color imaging is to use a single sensor and mount a color filter array (CFA) in front of it, such that at each spatial position the scene information in only one color channel is captured. To estimate the missing colors at each pixel, a demosaicing algorithm is applied to the CFA samples. Besides the filter arrangement and the demosaicing method, the...

Edge Sensing Demosaicing Using Adaptive Weighted Interpolation

Demosaicing is a process of obtaining a full color image by interpolating the missing colors of an image captured from a digital still and video cameras that use a single-sensor array. The edges are not handled properly in the existing demosaicking methods. This study provides an effective demosaicing algorithm applying an adaptive weighted-edge interpolation to handle green pixels. Due to the i...

Color demosaicing in YUV color space

In a single-chip digital color imaging sensor, a color filter array (CFA) is used to obtain sampled spectral components (red, green and blue) in an interleaved fashion. Color demosaicing is the process of interpolating these regularly spaced sampled values into the dense pixel maps for each spectral components. In this paper we present techniques for interpolating the color images in the YUV co...
